A LETTER TO WITCHES

By Dr. Robert A. Morey

The following is a letter that Dr. Morey has written to teenage witches that he thought you might like to share with others.

I see from the pentagram you wear and all your magical charms that you believe in the power of magic. Perhaps you have attended a Wiccan gathering or you have participated in some magic rituals. I don't know.

: A pentagram does not necessitate the belief in magic. It is merely a symbol which represents a point of focus, or a spiritual choice in paths.:

But so many questions fill my mind. Have you "drawn down the moon" yet? Have you ever felt a power come upon you? Do you worship a particular goddess? Have you been initiated? Do you have a Wiccan name? Have you gone skyclading? Are you in the outer or inner circle? Have you used blood in your rituals? Have you ever called forth a familiar spirit?

:what difference does that make and when did it become your business? not all non christian/pagan religions follow or institute these ideas you have expressed here:

The reason I am writing you is that I have studied the occult for thirty years and I have come to certain conclusions.

Now, I know that you will disagree with some of my conclusions because we have traveled different paths. But I have added the benefit of the testimonies of those who used magic in the highest levels possible such as the Golden Dawn and the O.T.O. and then have come to faith in Christ and now have renounced magic.

:and these testimonies are supposed to mean something? what is the defining point of "highest levels of magic"? There is no highest level. There is a continual growing and evolution of understanding, focus and energy. how can you come to faith in christ and renounce magic? christ's miracles performed were *magic* whether you choose to see it that way or not. for most people the definition of magic is the asking of one's chosen deity or power for something. A favour, a gift, a power, an advantage. Most people preform magic rituals to obtain this to see that there is a sacrifice made, or gift given in return for what was asked. Others see magic as a focus of the power that already resides in themselves to gain, obtain, or perform a function they seek. That, neighbor, is exactly what christ did. Called upon his father, called upon his angels, called upon himself the power to heal, perform miracles and other such things. Magic. Plain and simple. You would hide that fact so that you can remain steadfast in your ignorance and stubborness in the hopes of getting people to convert. That's how the christians did it to the celts. They obfuscated with christ to get them to give up the worship of their deities and magic.:

All I ask is that you have an open mind and give serious attention to the things I now bring up. Remember an unexamined faith is a worthless faith.

:That's okay : ) I've always thought christianity was worthless. examined or not. But I did spend 18 years as a christian.:

I. The fact that magic does not work.

:That is a lie. Just because you either did not work your magic in the appropriate manner, or it didn't work out in just the way you had hoped, magic does in fact work. People claim it doesn't when they work a spell for money, and are offered a great job, or something else they don't recognize as being the answer, or final product, but that is their selfish shortcoming. You have no proof that it doesn't:

After all the talk about the "power" that people can get from magic, I have never known a more powerless group of people.

:Then you aren't talking to the right people. Just because fire doesn't constantly spring from their fingertips or gold from their lips doesn't mean they don't have power. It's the same as saying christians who administer to the sick and the dying (televangalists) don't have power. Bluntly, it's in the eye of the beholder.:

Many of those who use magic are sick all the time. They go through mulitple marriages. They have money problems. Their cars get flat tires. They get their share of flus and colds.

:That is completely ridiculous. People who have "faith" and the "love of their lord and savior jesus christ" have the same problems. It is not confined to one specific set of people. I've seen many an "upstanding" christian go through multiple marraiges and scandals, stealing from the church and their followers, killing and sexually abusing their wifes and daughters and children and neighbors. Sickness up the wazoo. Especially the faith healing fundamentalists who would let a child die because of his strict faith in christ.:

Even more seriously, they cannot beat their own drug or sex addiction. They are usually in bondage and totally powerless to change their life for the
better.

:That is also absurd. You mean to tell me you don't know of or have ever heard of your pious church leaders having a drug addiction that they can't just wipe out with their love for christ? Or their sex addiction? Or their dirty perverse ways that they manipulate and torture young children with for the rest of their days because they are sick and twisted animals who don't deserve to like the shit off my boots? Couldn't that be easily solved with faith and love? :

If magic really worked, they would never be sick. They would win every horse race in town! They would own Wall Street by now! They would be able to maintain a successful marriage.

:That you say these things in this manner repeatedly disgusts me. Like only magic using pagans have these problems and issues. Well think about it. If "faith" really worked, no christian would ever be sick, or down in the dumps, or poor, or needy, or or or. Plenty of christians have not had successful marriages, but you never question their faith.:

But the fact is, you waste a lot of money and time on magic and are no better off. In fact, you will end up worse off.

:People waste alot of time on church and prayer and are no better off than they were when they started. If all the money used to pay for the clothes and instruments and air time for those 700 club shows and christian network shows were used for better things like feeding children, getting homeless people off the streets and abused children and wifes to save homes there would be better off people. But that never comes up.:

If magic worked, witches would be picking up the winning lottery numbers every week. But the fact is that when the "rubber meets the road" magic
simply does not work.

:Old old old, getting old. Same old shit repeated over and over and over. If if if if if. Yeah, if to you too. IF you weren't such a selfish blind asshole and IF you got off your high horse. Magic doesn't work the way you seem to think it needs to in order for you to be convinced that magic works. It's not about monetary gain and riches and wealth.:

II. Their lame duck excuses as to why they are sick or why they can't keep their marriage together or why they aren't rich, are weak and feeble.

:Gee, and I've never heard a lame duck excuse from a christian as to why they can't give up drinking or drugs or touching their virgin daughter. This whole line of talk is IGNORANT. If magic doesn't produce the exact effects you want, right here and now, and solve all the worlds problems in one day then it must be a joke? Give me a fucking break:

One psychic "healer" (a relative of mine) is sick all the time. Her husband is dying of cancer! When she boasted to me of her magical powers, I confronted her with the rather obvious fact that her magic did not work for her or her ex-husband. She replied that her magic will not work for herself.

:It happens. People die. And usually there's not much you can do about it. I've seen many people pass on from many things, and neither magic or faith helped them. I've also seen people who were miraculously cured of things that were terminal and without help. From both faith and magic.:

But who says that you cannot heal yourself by magic? Where is it written down? And who says that your husband or wife cannot use magic to heal
you? If her magic cannot help herself or her husband, then what good is it?

I could not help but point out that she was always crying about money problems. What use is her magic if it cannot make her rich?

:There are lots of people who cry about money problems who have this faith and love and have been saved by christ. What use is Jesus if he can't make you rich?:

III. A magical world view is internally contradictory and hypocritical.

A. To say, "there are no moral absolutes" is to give an absolute

:Just as "you have free agency" and then "Follow these commandments, follow these doctrines, follow these rules or you'll burn in hell you shitty little heathen" is contradictory and hypocritical. Big people who are supposed to set examples get caught sinning, and you're supposed to look the other way. It's okay for them because they're so close to God? Nor have I met anyone who shares this "there are no moral absolutes" belief. You talk to strange people and then condemn every witch with these sentiments. How shallow.:

B. To say, "Do what thou wilt, this is the whole of the law" has been used to justify everything from black magic to human sacrifice. If there are no
standards, then on what grounds can they condemn child abuse, Hitler, murder, etc.? They can't.

:Who said there is justification? And the phrase is "An it harm none, do what ye will." Do you understand what that means? Do it so long as it hurts no one and there's nothing to worry about. Everyone else believes in the threefold law. What you do comes back in threes. There *is* retribution for mean people. Unlike christians who can just "repent" get baptized and say they were saved by Jesus. That fixes everything for you. You don't have to face *anything*:

C. To say, "everything is relative" and "there is no evil," and then to turn around and say that Christianity is "evil" is contradictory.

:Again. You talk to the strangest people. Some people believe there is in fact no evil. Not everyone is a hypocrite, but there are some in life nomatter where you go. Oh well. Get over it. We get over people like you.:

D. To say, "Everyone has the right to believe what they want" and then condemn Christians for what they believe is contradictory.

:Gee, and isn't that the same thing that christians tell everyone else? Love everyone, thy neighbor, believe how you want....yet they condemn and condemn and condemn and even tortured innocent people for their beliefs. Where do you get off thinking you're so sparkly clean and innocent?:

E. To say, "Do what thou wilt" and then tell Christians NOT to do what they wilt is hypocritical.

:Not everyone says or believes this either. Few people do. But it's the same thing your people do, and what you yourself are doing right now.:

F. To say, "that it is wrong to judge/condemn others," and then to judge/condemn Christians is contradictory.

:Pardon me while I choke on a bone. Exqueeze me? Who began the judgment and condemnation here? In the bible it says "judge not lest ye be judged" and you do it every day. It says from God "I will forgive whom I will forgive, but of *you* (meaning you puny little mortal men) it is required to forgive *ALL* men." Not just who you feel like, or are pals with, or in debt to. EVERYONE. The condemnation and judgement of christians is wrong, but it's usually from frustration and bitterness at your high and mighty, self satisfied, holier than thou attitudes that you weild as you condemn us to eternities 10 fold in hell because we're not like you.:

IV. A magical view of life does not correspond to reality.

:Then what does? We're supposed to believe one God did all of this. You expect people to believe in the works and wonders of God and his son. The power of miracles and the moving of mountains with faith, but magic doesn't correspond with reality? A first kiss is pretty magical. Birth, growth, blooming flowers, healing, loving, laughter. Those all breed the power of magic.:

G. No magic is going to make you thin if you do not stop eating. No magic will make you rich if you do not get up and go to work.

:Yeah, and the people who believe that are the same lazy fatasses who seek a quick fix in a diet pill. They don't want to make the effort. No magic doesn't make you rich. But that goes without saying that if you don't put forth AN effort you are going to get NOTHING. Period. Faith without works doesn't work, remember?:

H. The claim of modern witches that they are reviving pre-Christian paganism is not true historically. The rituals and beliefs of modern day magic are
of recent origin.

:That's pretty damned amazing. Then how did christians manage to almost eliminate any and all existance of other religions, celtic and nordic? There was magic before you, there'll be magic after you. There is nothing recent about it.:

I. My brother in law who is in the occult told me he was going to use magic to get himself a parking space in N.Y.C. I in turn told him that I would ask
Jesus to get me a space. He drove around for four hours before finding a place while I found one immediately and did not have to go around the block
even once! His magic was not even good enough to find him a parking space!

:Darn. It happens. On experiment and that's it. Poof, failing grade for magic. I'm honestly sure Jesus personally came down and made sure there was a parking space just for you. That's extremely petty.:

J. A magical view of life is a cop out and it breeds irresponsibility. Instead of taking responsibility for their life, those who use magic always blame
"bad luck" or claim that someone is using black magic against them. The truth is that YOU are responsible for the choices you make in life - not
magic.

:A christian view of life is a cop out, and it breeds excuses, irresponsibility and dishonorable behavior. Instead of taking responsibility for their lives, they "repent" and blame sin and the devil and temptation. They let Jesus take all the flack for it. They are led like sheep wherever the people in charge decide they're going. They don't have to think for themselves, or act for themselves. They can let someone else do all the deciding and basically have served no purpose in life for themselves or anybody else but the assholes in charge. People have gotten away with murder because of "twinkies" and "PMS" and all kinds of other amazing excuses. The people I know in life who use magic have never once blamed magic for things that happened to them that weren't pleasant. Sure, there are ways to protect yourself from the evil that exists in the world, and from people using magic against you with magic, but when magic is blamed, there is a reason. You *know* that there is someone using magic against you. It's not an everyday catch all excuse for the bad things that happen in life.:

K. It attracts people with mental problems. Sad but true. I have seen this many, many times. The State Mental Hospitals are filled with people who
were users of magic. It appeals to people with those kind of people.

:Now you're being stupid. Magic attracts all kinds of people, and not even the majority of people with mental problems were magic users or had magic interest. The state hospital is filled will people of all ages, and beliefs and circumstance. More often than not they are delusional, delirious christian spouting sods who are plagued by Jesus and devils and their own personal demons, likely from the christian bastard that abused them, or broke their mind with their "sick devout ways" Christianity appeals to people who don't want to take responsibility for themselves or learn anything. Ex: How many people do you know who claim christianity, but never go to church, have never read the bible, don't give to charities or help the less fortunate, and never ever pray except in rare and calculated circumstance.IE: "Please God let my team win." or "Please god let me get out of this mess.":

L. They live in constant fear of the powers they draw down. Hence they need the occult protection of the circles, towers, shields, charms, etc.. What a
terrible religion of fear!

:Christians live in constant fear of "hell" and "satan" Hence they need crosses and bibles and hymns and prayer and group therapy by ugly ministers and priests with an obsession for exorcising their parishoners.:

M. If you depend upon trinkets such as pentagrams to protect you, you do not have any real power. To think that a stupid piece of metal or glass is
going to protect you from a demon you summon is absurd.

:Then explain to me the need to wear a cross, or a rosary? It's not a trinket, it's a symbol with which you focus your energy and thought. And for your information, those stupid pieces of metal and glass have been known to protect people more than once from personal daemons, bullets and other bad things.:

N. The lust for blood is evil. It has led to horrible crimes. Killing animals and people for their "energy" is wicked as well as criminal.

:I agree with you. Who are you in contact with that does these sorts of things? I know no one who does those things. Well except for the crusades, and the inquisition and foul and horrifying means of torture to get innocent people to confess of crimes not commited, or to convert to christianity.:

O. Sex magic is filthy and gross beyond words and involves child abuse, bestiality, sodomy, etc. You will never have a normal satisfying sex life once
you debase yourself in sex magic.

:Sex magic is not what you are communing here. Sex magic is an act of love or protection or salvation. It has never involved child abuse, bestiality, sodomy etc. The only times that was a concern was a myth about Satanists killing infants and children. It didn't happen, and they aren't witches. You are imagining a horrible and ugly thing that could only be conjured by a christian mind. Only those are foul enough to think such hideous things. You need some new friends. They're filling your head with lies. Tell me, is child molestation and or rape a satisfying sex life? Is that normal? I can name several christians who were involved in all of the above. :

P. Magic is for losers.

:What a nice sentiment. Of course you'd say something like that. Magic is for people strong enough to believe in themselves, and believe in the power they've always had. Magic is for winners. Christianity is for losers. Ugly ingrateful creatures who blame everyone else for their troubles and harrass and threaten and take up arms against anyone not like them.:

The greatest magicians always end up broke, alone, and miserable. Check to see what happend to people like Crowley. They were all losers.

:Some idolized christians ended up broke, alone and miserable. Check to see what happened to Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart. They were both losers and there will be more to come. I anxiously await the fall of Pat Robertson, and Jerry Falawell.:

Whenever a true Christian challenges them, the magicians always lose.

:Is this an admission of there being false christians? And no they haven't, but the only stories that get told are the ones where they won and succeeded. Same with the Folger's commercials. You don't seriously believe everyone in the restaurant they screwed with liked that crap, do you? But they wouldn't air them saying "This shit takes like Donkey Pee!" when they are trying to get people to drink their product. Same thing. Christians aren't going to bring up the failings and downsides. They don't want to disturb people and turn them away from their faith.:

I have challenged occultist to take their best shot and they always failed. On one occasion, a coven sent demons to kill me but I didn't even get a
headache!

:That's too bad. But are you sure they actually did it? Or did they merely tell you they did with the hope that your own paranoia would syke you out? It happens. It's called PLACEBO, or NOCEBO.:

Q. While there is a lot of hate and lust in magic, there is no love. If you leave or reveal the secrets, they will try to kill you.

:Untrue untrue untrue. I cannot stress that enough. There is so much more love than you could possibly hope to imagine. Love and peace and solace. No one will try to kill you for leaving their group. It's a myth. You're talking to the strangest people, I reiterate..but it's much like how if you leave christianity they hunt you and follow you and chase you and try to use reverse psychology to get them to come back. "We love you, you're going to burn in hell. We miss you what's wrong with you?" And the gossip will ensue. That's not love, that's a selfish burning desire to earn more stars for your crown in heaven.:

I helped to move a girl from Philadelphia to Florida to escape her former occult friends. If they really loved her, why did they try to kill her? If she
wanted to leave the group, why did they object to her doing what she wilt?

:It wasn't the right group. unfortunately there are some real nuts around there. But there are nomatter where you go. They're not all one or all another. :

R. There is no forgiveness, comfort or salvation in magic. It has no Savior or God who loves and cares for you.

:There may not be forgiveness or salvation in magic but that's not what it's for. Comfort, yes. Just like comfort in prayer. There is no guarantee of salvation or forgiveness. There is in fact a God/Goddess who loves you and cares for you. They believe in you and are proud of you. They want you to work for what you have and for what you believe in. They don't get disappointed when you don't measure up. And they aren't jealous of other deities. They don't lie to you, or cover up the truth. No, they won't wipe your ass, but they are there. They will help you when you need and when you do your part.:

The occult is lonely, sad, cold and sterile.

:You must've had some sad and bitter experiences to feel this way. It's only this way if you don't go in with a pure heart, and mind. If you don't put it, you won't get anything back. Unlike christianity where their god can take and take and take because that's *his*will and give nothing in return. The occult is full of life and laughter and freedom. I have met such strong people with strong and beautiful spirits who were in the occult. Very few do I meet of even euqal accord. elsewhere. :

S. The Bible says that true power behind the magical arts is satanic. Those who deny this are dupes of the devil.

:The bible says alot of things. The bible was written by men who claim inspiration and guidance from God. Men are known to be fools and selfish. Guided by their own wants and means. Men make mistakes. The contradictions in the bible uphold this. God says love one another, and forgive everyone, and then there are multiple cases of people not being forgiven, by God. For petty reasons. God makes a bet with satan over a man, for his soul. God lets innocent women and children get raped and killed in his name. God lets a father allow his virgin daughters to be raped and sullied by strangers because he has "angels" visiting. This is disturbing and upsetting. I would rather not believe it, but so long as it is there and people uphold it as the truth, confusing as it is, I am not duped by anyone.:

These are just a few things that came to mind as I thought about what I have seen in thirty years of research in the occult.

:Thirty years you wasted among the wrong people. I know many more people who've found everything they've sought and more. Complete happiness and joy. Bliss and sanctity in occult and magic. For all their lives, and some in only the last few years. It isn't as bad as you've made it out to be. There are more than enough happy people, happy witches. I know far too many unhappy christians bound by guilt and fear. :

The Lord Jesus Christ has broken the power of magic and has brought life, love and immortality to light through the Gospel. Jesus is Victor!

:Jesus has risen people from the dead. That is an excessive example of magic if I ever saw one. Jesus is a pacifist who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.:

The occult has nothing to offer that compares with the love of Jesus. Turn to Him in repentance. Renounce your witchcraft and the works of the devil.
Burn your magic books and mash your altars. Turn or burn. Repent or perish! Jesus is the answer. John 3:36.

: You're right. Nothing could compare. Jesus and God's love come with strings attached. Only if you measure up does it work. The occult is a peacful and loving form. Witches don't answer to the devil. They don't even believe in the devil. Turn or burn. Hypocrisy, condemnation and the sickness of christianity at it's worst. Jesus is confusion.:
