This is my little ode to "The Wall" by Pink Floyd.

Bits and pieces that meant something to me...and when i'm finished, I'll give a little soap box effort...

" So ya, thought ya, might like to see the show..."

" did did did did you see the frightened ones?

did did did did you hear the falling bombs?

the flames are all long gone, but the pain lingers on...

good bye, blue sky, good bye, blue sky...good bye."

( YOU!! Yes YOU! Stand still, laddie! )

" we don't need no education "

( Wrong! DO it again!! )

" we don't need no thought control "

" mother do you think they'll drop the bomb?

mother should i build the wall?

mother's gonna keep you under her wing

she won't let you fly, but she might let you sing.

mother, did it have to be so high?"

" Keep people as pets!!"

" I am just a new boy...

who's gonna show this stranger around?

oooh...i need a dirty woman."

" day after day...love turns gray.

night after night, we pretend it's allright. "

( TAKE THAT FUCKERS!!! )

" i don't need no arms around me...

i have seen the writing on the wall.

don't think i need anything at all."

" Is there anybody out there???"

" bring the boys back home!"

( PINK YOU VICIOUS TWIST!!)

" hello...is there anybody in there? just nod if you can hear me..."

" you are only coming in in waves. your lips move, but i can't hear what they say.

i've got that feeling again,

i cannot explain.

you just would not understand,

i have become....comfortably numb."

" Are there any QUEERS in the audience tonight??

That one in the spotlight, HE doesn't look right!

That one looks JEWISH...and That one's a COON!

Hey, who let all this riff-raff into the room??

This ones smoking a JOINT!

And THAT one's got SPOTS!!

If I had my way...you'd all be SHOT!!"

" oooh, you cannot reach me now. good bye cruel world, it's over....walk on by."

" all you need to do is follow "

(STOP!)

" do you remember the way it used to be?

i wanna go home, take off this uniform and leave the show.

Have I been guilty?"

" the prisioner was caught RED HANDED showing FEELINGS!

I always knew he'd end up to no good."

"Crazy...toys in the attic, i'm crazy..."

"there must have been a door in the wall"

" the way you made them suffer, your exquisite wife and mother

fills me with the urge to DEFECATE!!

Since my friend you have revealed your deepest fear,

I sentence you to be exposed before your peers.."

( TEAR DOWN THE WALL!)

" all alone or in two, the ones who really love you...walk around outside the wall."

Now that that's finished, let me continue.

I watched the film "The Wall" for the first time, Friday, January 2nd...1999. I watched it without the benefit of acid, as was planned, but I got the movie on short notice, and I'm out of touch, so I wouldn't have been able to score from someone I trust, and I didn't intend to go scouring the streets for one measly acid tab. Nothing special, nothing extreme. I just wanted to "experience" "The Wall"

I watched it again, tonight...January 5th, 1999. I had already planned on inserting some of the lines that stood out, only I watched it again, closer, and picked a few more.

I would love to ask the former band members of Pink Floyd for all the details on just what "The Wall" means. But I don't have that sort of inside, so...I'll have to give my best judgement, as I'm sure plenty of people have already done.

The wall, in "The Wall" represents many things. Not just the wall between the east and west, but the wall between people. The wall between living, and experiencing.

The main theme in the movie was anti-conformity. Don't let the goverment, or anyone else lead you around, treat you like a sheep, and force you to be "just like everyone else" because in the movie, those "automatons" ended up in a meat grinder.

As my parents told me "be a leader, not a follower". It doesn't matter if you're evil, or insane, or not what society likes, because that, in truth is the evil. "Social acceptance"

As long as you are doing something "different" or that is a cause origionated by you...you're free. You don't have to rely on the blood of other people to beat your path, or give you an escape, you can find your own, and maybe someday have the honor of being the chance for someone else.

"Pink" started out rocky. His father dies in the war. and the teachers are trying to keep him from having a mind of your own. And it's as simple as teachers trying to force you not to be ambi-dexterous. <for you morons, that means forcing you to be right handed only> I've heard of people who's hands were "rulered" by teachers that didn't want them to write left handed. When the hell did that become a law??

Or the teachers who get pissy because you're reading a book more advanced from the students around you. Like, they're on Dick and Jane, and you're reading, Charlotte's Web, or something bigger. Why must you be held back? Both I and my sisters had this problem.

Or, when it comes time to be "politically correct" and "non racial" that you'll lower your standards so that the stupid colored kids can get into special advanced classes.

I was denied entrance into such a program...because I was white.

They needed more minorities, and it would seem racist to keep your expectations up...you know, if you demand those A's, you won't have enough minorities to get by.

Then Pink gets married. I'm not sure just how the change happened, but when you see him first, he's already "tuned in" and just another political sheep.

He becomes just what the movie was stressing was so wrong.

And at one point, seems to be his worst enemy.

The Labor Party...a political party, is represented with the violence and racial attitudes of the KKK.

It is a sincere seeming cause to begin with. Just some hard working people who want their rights from the rich bastards.

But they go about trying to get it in the same militant manner as the Neo-Nazis. And considering the fact that in England there are only two groups that the Nazis can be a part of, it ends up seeming to be the one, in two groups.

Pink has his tirade, and then hides when he's finished while the screaming is going on...and remembers how it used to be, and feels guilty...wonders if he is guilty...and he is discovered.

So the trial goes on, and he is blasted by a judge in the shape of an ass, and told that his punishment will be to be exposed in front of his peers....the people who thought him god for being another follower....and then the fateful words...

"Tear Down the Wall"

But that's what he wanted in the first place.

And you can fight, and resist, and revolt, but sometimes it is much easier to become what you fear, and hate.

And when you do...some are lost, but some aren't. Because they resisted so hard, they can become "comfortably numb" and pretend that it's okay...and pretend that it doesn't matter anymore.

But it's not. Anywhere you are. England, Ireland, US...fight the conformity. Don't be a sheep. Pierce every bone in your godforsaken, ugly, pale, scrawny, body...because it's what people don't like. Color your hair because it's socially unacceptable.

Smoke, do drugs, experience, have sex...do it because you are free. And we were not made to be told what to do. We were made to choose, and to be our own person.

DO IT!!!! BECAUSE I TOLD YOU TO AND I AM YOUR MISTRESS AND GODDESS!!! just kidding.

Do it because you want to be free, and if you never do anything, you will be just another brick in the perpetual wall, that has never really come down.
