March/April Lightning bolt Newsflash

We have been very busy the past couple months. The sixth-graders enjoyed Science camp at Sonora. They learned a lot and impressed everyone with their knowledge and their behavior. The fifth-graders are anticipating their trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium on March 15th. We have begun working on several projects for Open House, including sharing our montages. Please come to see our accomplishments on Thursday, April 18th.

Both grades have begun reading new, interesting chapter books. Fifth grade is learning about the westward movement while they read Save Queen of Sheba. Sixth grade is reading The Cay. In Math, fifth grade just completed dividing decimals and have begun fraction concepts while sixth grade just completed integers and are learning about algebraic expressions and equations. We have also been working on a festive writing assignment &endash; a "news story" about St. Patrick's Day. In History, fifth grade is studying the exploration of America and the beginning of the colonies while sixth grade is studying about Egypt and Africa.

When we return from Easter Break (March 23rd &endash; April 1st), we will be practicing for the SAT 9 testing which will be given from April 22nd &endash; 26th. Please make sure your student gets LOTS of rest during these 4 weeks so they will be able to complete these tests to the best of their ability. THANK YOU!

Congratulations to our girls' "A" basketball team for tying for 2nd place in league and for winning 2nd place outright at the tournament in Riverdale on February 23rd. Again, as in volleyball, they missed the championship by only 7 points. We have a very bright future &endash; there were 4 5th-graders on the "A" team! (Elizabeth Flores, Andrea Mendoza, Yvonne Morales, and Cecilia Rodriguez) Thanks, Coach Matt, for all of your help.

Happy Birthday in March to Bridgied (25th), and in April to Silbano (1st), Ashley (3rd), and Andrea (6th). Enjoy a restful and blessed Easter Break with your families. Thank you, once again, for the privilege to work with the greatest kids on planet earth &endash; you make the EAGLES #1!
