- Biography of
Father Serra
- California
History Resources -- a page from the "History Through
Literature," this is a list of literature resouces that teach
about California history.
- California
Mission Studies Association -- This is a fairly exhaustive hot
link list of sites pertaining to California Missions. Many are
good for students, all are excellent resources for teacher
preparation.
- The
California Missions -- a list of all 21 missions with short
annotation on many of them.
- California's
Missions -- Picture postcards of all 21 missions and other
information. One of the best features is the "Visiting the
Missions" link which shows a chart of all the missions, when they
were founded, and what condition they are in now.
- Pictures
of California Missions -- This site features historic
photographs of all 21 California Missions, from as early as 1895,
as well as an essay about their founding, a map, etc.
- Virtual
Tour of the California Missions -- See pictures of each of the
missioins as the guides go on their bicycle tour. This was
originally done as a "real time" activity with fourth grade
classes. It is still a work in progress.

Literature" but this totally cool site includes much more than
suggested readings. There are pages with great things for students
to do such as puzzles, art activities, and other web resources.

subjects such as tides, marine biodiversity, hagfish (slime eel),

- Monterey Bay Aquarium --
Visit this Monterey Bay Aquarium to prepare students for their
visit. There are many activities for children as well as resources
to help you prepare.
- Seaweb -- A multi media
education project designed to raise awareness of the world ocean
and the life within it. The web site hase links to projects that
can be used for resources as well as for children to explore.
- Coral
and Coral Reefs -- This site, a Sea World/Busch Gardens
Education Department resource, features detailed info about coral
reefs. It has many projects that children can do and some they can
observe via the Internet. It also has an excellent bibliography
and links to other resources. Permission is granted by Sea World
for classroom teachers to make reprographic copies of worksheets
provided for noncommercial use.
- International
Year of the Ocean --Fact sheets, fun facts and activities
designed to celebrate the ocean and teach kids how to protect and
champion it. This is a HUGE website that has a special link on the
homepage for Teachers There are worksheets
that can be printed out. Many are primary level.
- Secrets of the Sea
-- Teachers and students are invited to log on to the
worldís first online ocean adventure learning game. Easy to
set-up in the classroom and quick to download, Secrets @ Sea is
deep with educational content! Ace on the Case: Secrets @
Sea is a curriculum-based adventure story for grade 4-7
students on the World Wide Web. This engaging website game
complements ocean-theme units of study in the classroom and
enhances student's learning experiences using the Internet.
Students play the starring role of "Ace", assistant investigator
to Paula Pacific, who is assigned to examine unusual behaviours
noticed in killer whale populations in the Alanamorris Strait. As
Ace progresses through the story, s/he must successfully complete
a number of ocean-related learning activities. The knowledge
gained from completing these activities leads the student to the
solution of the case. This requires that you
download (free) the Flash3 plub-in from Macromedia. It's easy to
do--just point and click.

Resouces -- a page from"History Through Literature," this is a
list of literature books that teach about ancient History.
- The
History of Ancient Egypt -- This site will enable you to
navigate interactively through the more than 3000 years of Ancient
Egypt. Choose the name of a period, a dynasty, or a date, and find
out more abou them. You can also choose one of the Pharohs of the
first six dynasties, Saqqara--City of the Dead, The Language of
Ancient Egypt, and Ancient Egypt from A to Z.

Castle -- Download free software with plans for building a
castle, or link to on-line instructions for building your own
castle
- Castles on the
web -- This site will link you to hundreds of sites about
castles--with a special section of "Castles for Kids"
- Knights
and Castles -- This is a commercial site, designed to sell
model castles. (Don't worry about getting sucked in. They are
probably too expensive for any teacher to buy!) It does, however,
provide many really excellent pictures of castles and their
surroundings.

- California State Railroad
Museum -- the largest and finest interpretive railroad museum
in North America and is the most visited in the world. The
Railroad Museum offers a stunning and unusual setting for your
event or party and is one of Sacramento's most popular rental
sites
- The
Fredinand Magellan, Presidential Rail, U.S. Number 1 -- Visit
the Presidential Rail car of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the only
car ever custom built for the President of the United States in
the 20th century. You will find links to the reasons for the
train, a virtual tour, and its recent history.
- South
Carolina Railroad Museum Schoolhouse site --This site will
take you to an on-line history of Railroading in American, its
economics, its science, as well as a bibliography and literature
links.
- The B&O Railroad
Museum -- This site has some history of the railroad and many
excellent pictures of steam and deisel trains and of the
Roundhouse at the museum.
